Wynn Resorts Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn told CNBC on Wednesday that he is considering moving the company's global headquarters from Las Vegas to Macau. He also opened his latest hotel and casino in Macau Wednesday and said he aims to start building a massive new resort in the Chinese gambling mecca next year.

“It is not improbable or unrealistic considering so much of our revenue is from China that it makes sense that I spend most of my time here,” Wynn said of a possible move. “I'm seriously considering that and I am weighing the implications of how I engineer that.”

Wynn Resorts said in February it lost $5.2 million, or 4 cents per share, during the fourth quarter of 2009, compared to a loss of $159.6 million, or $1.49 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2008. Net revenue for the fourth quarter of 2009 was $809.3 million, compared to $614.3 million for the same period of 2008.

Recently, as this cautionary tale becomes the prophecy of what is happening in our world, it has become more popular than ever. “Going Galt” is becoming a cry heard more and more as the statists demand that wealth be redistributed and work and talent are punished under crushing confiscation.

Reason TV kicks off its Ayn Rand retrospective this week with a look at how suddenly relevant the philosopher and novelist has become. A-list Hollywood stars want to make a movie from Atlas Shrugged, and suddenly “going Galt” has become a popular catchphrase for producer strikes. Who would have guessed that the era of Hope and Change would have produced Rand as a counter-cultural phenomenon?

Well, perhaps Rand herself would have foreseen it — and in fact she did, in Atlas Shrugged:

Many of us who know Rand’s work have noticed that with each passing week, and with each successive bailout plan and economic-stimulus scheme out of Washington, our current politicians are committing the very acts of economic lunacy that “Atlas Shrugged” parodied in 1957….

For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises — that in most cases they themselves created — by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism….

David Kelley, the president of the Atlas Society, which is dedicated to promoting Rand’s ideas, explains that “the older the book gets, the more timely its message.” He tells me that there are plans to make “Atlas Shrugged” into a major motion picture — it is the only classic novel of recent decades that was never made into a movie. “We don’t need to make a movie out of the book,” Mr. Kelley jokes. “We are living it right now.”
